Opening up about Anxiety
I was sad to see beautiful Tara Palmer-Tomkinson recently breakdown over her health issues with anxiety. Many of the clients I treat are affected with anxiety and it is one of the issues that I resolve on a regular basis.
There are many reasons for anxiety but the start of the problem occurs with the adrenal glands. The adrenal glands sit above the kidneys and they regulate many parts of the body. It is essential that these little glands are taken care of. The use of recreational drugs, a poor diet, work stress, relationship stress or inherited poor health or childhood neglect can all end up stressing these glands and once these are stressed the consequences can be severe and overwhelming.
Recreational drugs – A Fast Track way to Anxiety
Recreational drugs used on a regular basis activate the adrenal glands into providing the body with more energy and by so doing the constant use of drugs puts stress on these glands; eventually these glands stop working.
When the glands stop working, it is not a simple matter of taking adrenal support supplements because by this stage there are many parts of the body that have been affected.
For example, the adrenal glands allow the stomach to make stomach acid. When the adrenal glands are stressed stomach acid drops and this causes many problems with the digestive system, all of which have to be rectified one by one whilst supporting the health of the adrenal glands.
The cause of anxiety can vary from person to person but as each factor is addressed the anxiety becomes less and less until it is resolved. For some clients this can happen within the week and for others a touch longer but the key is to address all the various health issues that show up with anxiety.
Anxiety is awful. I have experienced this myself and it was debilitating. I wanted to meet up with friends but at the last minute did not feel able to and cancelled regularly to the point that I lost my friends. I wanted to go to the shops, parked the car and yet could not get out and drove back home. Events were a struggle to face because I had inner fear that I could not understand. Thankfully my ill health led me to become a nutritionist and I addressed my health issues which has allowed me to become a chilled out person and one that can easily make friends and pop out to the shops however I will never forget how awful I felt back in those days and how little anyone understood what I was going through.
It is interesting as over the years when I struggled most with anxiety, I had people tell me that I was depressed and was encouraged to discuss this was a Psychiatrist. I had no external stress and had a happy family life so I knew that I was not depressed and I proved this by resolving my health issues naturally. I believe that psychiatrists have their place as do alternative therapies such as EFT, but for some people the problem is internal and only when these issues have been addressed does the anxiety stop.
Most GPs unfortunately do not explore stressed adrenal glands or the consequences of these and instead prescribe drugs. All pharmaceutical drugs come with side effects and whilst these can calm the mind these are not addressing the root cause of the problem.
I see many children with anxiety but the problem is that they have always been anxious and the parents and they themselves think that it is ‘just their nature’. Anxiety and irritability is not a natural personally trait, both issues are serious and should be treated as such. Teenagers should not be moody but calm and relaxed as they are far better able to handle external stress when this is the case. Often it just takes little tweaks to the diet and the right natural supplements to turn a stressed/anxious person into a calm and relaxed individual.
If you have anxiety why not get in touch. I will be consulting in London on 18th & 19th August.
